OpenAI continues to roll out impressive updates for its ChatGPT platform. This week, the company announced a significant enhancement: the ability for ChatGPT to import files directly from external cloud drives, including Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.
The new feature is available to paying subscribers of ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise versions and is compatible with the recently released GPT-4o model as well as older models. This capability aims to streamline the workflow for users who rely on ChatGPT for document management and data analysis.
To demonstrate the new functionality, OpenAI released an animated video on its blog and social media platforms. The video outlines the process of granting access to Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, allowing users to select a variety of file types, such as spreadsheets, presentations, and documents, to import directly into ChatGPT.
Once the files are imported, ChatGPT’s interface has been updated to support full-screen views of spreadsheet files with an interactive interface. Users can make real-time changes to the files, leveraging the underlying AI model. This interactive feature extends to customizing and interacting with bar, line, pie, and scatter plot charts within the conversation. Users can hover over chart elements, ask additional questions, select colors, and download the customized charts for use in presentations or documents.
Moreover, OpenAI emphasizes privacy in its blog post, noting, “We don’t train on data from ChatGPT Team and Enterprise customers, and ChatGPT Plus users can opt out of training through their Data Controls,” accessible in the settings menu.
This update particularly benefits those using ChatGPT for work-related tasks, as it simplifies managing and editing documents. The ability to import files directly from cloud storage is expected to save users time and provide more flexibility when utilizing the chatbot.
It’s worth noting that this new feature is being rolled out partially, meaning that not all users may have immediate access. However, as the rollout progresses, more subscribers will be able to take advantage of this powerful tool.
As OpenAI continues to enhance ChatGPT’s capabilities, this latest update marks a significant step forward in integrating AI into everyday workflows, making document management more efficient and user-friendly.
